It All Started When…
In 1997, Ashley and Melissa joined a local youth group called Challenge and the first mini-retreat was held that fall. Over the next 2 years, Bocamb was the site for a handful of boys and girls weekend retreats. 30 single beds were donated by an old seminary in Pearl River, now owned by the Department of Wildlife and Fisheries. In 2000, a week-long summer camp was planned and it was decided that a pool and bath house would be a great idea. The building of the bath house’ was definitely guided by the Holy Spirit as bathrooms became the current Pool House, with adequate cooking facilities, indoor eating space, and a Chapel upstairs. The Archdiocese of New Orleans officially approved the Chapel that summer enabling us to celebrate Mass, offer Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, and always the Sacrament of Reconciliation. One of our biggest joys is seeing the kids running and skipping after receiving absolution. Retreats and camps have focused and continue to focus on assisting young people in having a personal experience of Christ.
